Halloween Decorating ideas 2013

I had a great time decorating this year.  Earlier I posted some unique ideas on adding different colors to your Halloween décor.  This year I added in some blue pumpkins and dressed up some of last years interior decor.

OUTSIDE- Here is my front porch  and little cemetery.  I threw in some blue painted pumpkins this year.  (Dollar Tree pumpkins that I painted that is!)  I mixed in some glittered black and painted gold and white pumpkins.  I love to add sparkly picks to the stem part of some of my pumpkins so I randomly placed a few of them in the design.  The black birdcage is filled with a gold and black pumpkin and there is a large spider and crow making themselves at home.

I also added some purple and green foliage and a couple purple pansies.  Added the wreath....(tutorial in previous post), and VIOLA! Anytime you add some natural elements to you holiday décor, it freshens it up an adds a certain amount of beauty that cannot be duplicated with faux plants. Grab inexpensive plants and intermix them and you will be amazed at the difference!   Oh~  I did add my staple cemetery and witch as well!  Still have a few things to do....

Create an instant cemetery in your flower garden!  It's the perfect place to put those creepy headstones and ghoulish figures!

This was a new addition this year.  I love the way it turned out!  I grabbed the ideas several years ago off of the internet.

INSIDE-

I put these skeletons together last year.  I just adhered the skeleton heads to some old candle sticks that I picked up at an estate sale.  This year I added burlap collars to them by gathering some burlap and gluing it on the top of the candlesticks.  I also added some vintage looking cone hats.  I used some cute scrapbook paper to create the cone and added a strip of packaging paper to the rim.  I folded the packaging paper in an accordion style to create some texture and then added an orange sparkly spider to the front!

My porcelain skeleton got to dress up this year too!
As for the cloche over the witch image...I couldn't find it this year!  So I used a vintage mason jar instead.  I just turned it upside down and put the print inside the jar.

Here's my semi-homemade chandelier again.  See here for how I upscaled this little beauty!

This was my project today.  I just cut out some vintage sillhouetts with vinyl and put them on the battery operated candles. I LOVE them!

More tomorrow!

Easy Burlap Halloween Wreath

There are so many cute burlap wreaths floating around the internet.  I thought I would make one but of course I had to give it my own twist!  My oldest daughter actually helped me with it this time! So here is my Halloween Burlap wreath!  It was so easy and cheap!!!

Supplies-

Straw wreath  (JoAnn's-$3.00) You can use a foam wreath form as well but they are about twice the price.
Natural Burlap (1 yard- $3.99)
Glue Gun
Dollar Tree Skeleton garland ($1.00)
Wood plaque
Halloween Vinyl...(I can get this for you!)

So here is what I did~
Cut 3" strips of burlap. Glue one end to the wreath and wrap.  (LEAVE the plastic on the wreath.  This will prevent any moisture from getting into the straw.)
*Tip for cutting burlap-  pull out a string along the edge that you are cutting. This will create a natural line for you to follow when cutting... (see picture below).

Once you have covered your wreath, glue the end down with hot glue. If you want to add a loop to hang, now would be the time.  I would recommend a ribbon so that you don't have to deal with fraying.

Next cut a 6" strip of burlap and gently tug the string in the center.  DO NOT PULL IT ALL THE WAY THROUGH.  Hold one end and with the other end pull the string to create a gather. I cut along the short end of the piece of fabric so I used 2 separate pieces to get the right length.

Once you get the desired gathering, hot glue the burlap to the wreath.  You will then make a second layer by cutting a 4" strip of burlap and gather it as well.  You will glue the 4" strip on top of the 6" strip to create a darling multi-layered effect.

This shows the first layer. Glue the 4" strip on top of this.

You are almost done!  Lastly you will add the skeletons and your decorative plaque.  I wired my skeletons on so that I can remove them in case I choose to use the base wreath other times of the year. :) I put a string on the back of the board and hung it on my door hook (behind the wreath) and then pulled it through to the front of the wreath so that it wasn't permanent as well.  That's just how I do things!  MULTI-PURPOSE!

EASY PEASY!!!!!  and CHEAP!

Halloween and Fall Decorative Pillows...TOO DIE FOR!

While out and about the last few days scanning for Halloween décor, I have run across some dang cute Halloween pillows.  I found these beauties at Ross of all places!

It got me thinking. I am sure there are some super cute creations on Etsy. Sure enough, there were.  So many in fact that I couldn't possibly post them all. Here are a few of my favorites.  Some of these could be DIY projects but WOW on some of them! How fun would it be to put a few of these around the house?  There are a ton of designs for other holidays as well.  These are some talented peeps!

Halloween decorating ideas- Blue, (turquoise) white and black!

I am loving all of the fun Halloween decorating ideas that I have been seeing floating around the web lately. I am particularly drawn to anything blue or turquoise for Halloween this year.  I thought I would share some of the ideas that I have come across and hopefully help you spark some creative ideas of your own.  If you don't care for blue, what about interjecting green, fuchsia, or lavender?  (Hmm....maybe I will find some of those for a future post!)

How cute is this!  Run down and grab some decorative pumpkins from your local craft store and paint them your favorite Halloween accent color!  She has displayed them on cake stand and dressed them up with some all picks.  Super cute!

Here is a cute idea.  Instead of using your typical orange and black, use your unique color of choice when creating your crafty decor!  Just interject a little bit of the color here and there.  Aren't these cute?

Paint me Plaid
This neat turquoise and silver vignette is done with mercury glass pieces and glittered skulls.  I have found several of these pieces at my local TJ Maxx and Dollar Tree.

Here is another nicely done blue pumkin done with chalk paint.  LOVE IT!

Classy and tasteful!  This tablescape could be used during Halloween and Thanksgiving. Well done!
